SUNRISE, Fla. -- Stephen Weiss recorded his second NHL hat trick and scored in the shootout to lift the Florida Panthers to a 6-5 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night.

Nathan Horton and Dominic Moore also had goals for the Panthers, who snapped a five-game losing streak.

T.J. Galiardi and Matt Duchene both scored for Colorado with less then a minute left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Chris Stewart and Paul Stastny also had goals for Colorado. Duchene netted another goal the second period.

Scott Clemmensen, starting in place of injured Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun, made 29 saves. Vokoun is recovering after he was hit in the head by Florida defenceman Keith Ballard's stick during a bizarre on-ice accident Monday night. Vokoun received stitches on his ear but had no other medical problems.

Ballard leveled Andy. What a cheap shot!! Duchene is really starting to come on though.

Another good win tonight. Duchene was robbed of a goal but oh well. He's really coming on and looks like he'll be a stud for years to come. Budaj played a great game as well. All around good team effort and a great way to end the trip.

ST. LOUIS - Peter Budaj stopped 35 shots, Chris Stewart had two goals and an assist and the Colorado Avalanche ended a five-game trip with a 4-0 win over the St. Louis Blues on Monday night.

Paul Stastny and Matt Duchene each scored goals, Wojtek Wolski had three assists and John-Michael Liles collected two assists for the Avs.

Budaj earned his seventh career shutout and first this season in his fifth start. The shutout was Colorado's fourth. It was also Budaj's 84th career victory, which tied him with Stephane Fiset for fourth for most wins in franchise history.

The Blues, who have an NHL-worst 5-9-3 home mark, were coming off two road victories that came by shootout. They have yet to win three games in a row this season. It also was the third time the Blues have been blanked on home ice this season.

Colorado grabbed the lead late in the first period when Stewart deflected in Kyle Quincey's point shot with 10.9 seconds left in the period to give the Avs a 1-0 lead. Colorado won a faceoff in the Blues zone to set up Quincey's one-timer, which Stewart deflected over Chris Mason's left shoulder.

Stastny gave Colorado a 2-0 lead 6:08 into the second by knocking a rebound into an empty net after Mason was knocked from the crease by an Avs player, who got a shove from the Blues' David Backes.

Stewart scored his second of the game at 13:53 of the second, as he was able to redirect in Liles' shot from the right point for a 3-0 lead.

Duchene, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2009 draft, netted his ninth of the season at 12:44 of the third with a shot from the left circle that beat Mason through the pads.

The condition of goalie Craig Anderson is cloaked in some mystery tonight, which is not the way I like to describe anything as a reporter. Despite plenty of calls today, the condition of the Avs’ No. 1 padded guardian of the corded igloo remains somewhat vague to me as I write this.

Anderson came home early from the Avs’ recent road trip, for “further evaluation” by team doctors. So what came of the further evaluation? Nobody’s saying. As of now, the Avs are continuing to list Andy as out day-to-day with a neck injury. But does he have a concussion too? Not sure, nobody’s sayin’. But you have to wonder. Anderson isn’t talking to the media about it, either.

Generally, the Avs are one of the better teams in the NHL when it comes to disclosure about injuries, but they’re being a little vague on this one. We’ll see what happens at the skate tomorrow, but as of now I wouldn’t plan on seeing him in net tomorrow against the Wild.
