Peter Budaj has the Swine Flu

The Colorado Avalanche confirmed that backup goalie Peter Budaj has the swine flu.

Budaj didn't accompany the Avalanche on their four-game road trip that begins Tuesday night in Edmonton. There's a chance Budaj could rejoin the team later in the trip if he's cleared by team doctors.

"We're always cautious," coach Joe Sacco said Friday. "With Peter, once he came down with those flu-like symptoms, we did the right thing by keeping him away."

The team said no other players have come down with the virus.

Budaj was scheduled to start his first game of the season last Friday against Carolina, but was scratched due to flu-like symptoms.

Colorado recently brought up goalie Tyler Weiman from the Lake Erie Monsters of the AHL to serve as Craig Anderson's backup.

Anderson has a team-record 11 starts to begin a season.

uh oh...not a good sign if your an Avs fan. Not because of the loss of Budaj but because of the possible loss of many others.

Definitely bad but as soon as he got sick they kept him away from the team. I'm hoping it doesn't spread to the rest of the team. That would suck.

Ummm, yes it is. My uncle got it and spent 9 days in the hospital. It started as the swine flu, than he got whooping cough, Bronchitis and Pneumonia to go along with it. It is some bad stuff especially for young adults and kids.

Yeah, I was told by a doctor that it can take upwards of 2-weeks for symptoms to start showing up.

tell that to the nearly 6,000 people that have died since April. That was close to the most ignorant statement I have ever heard.

Thing is with virus' is that many times it has already spread and you don't feel the effects until weeks after you actually contracted the virus. It's tricky and wouldn't surprise me if someone else in that room is going to start feeling it at some point in the next week. The good thing is, is that these guys are pro athletes and they tend to heal alot quicker then most.

Damn, hopefully no other player got it from him. He is a professional athlete that is in great shape and he has the best of doctors, so he shouldn't be out for too long. Get well sir.

Swine flu really isnt that bad. Its basically an additional flu. Even if the 6000 number is true which has been questioned. Compare that to the 500 000 to 1 500 000 people who die from the ordinary flu each year
