Last year it was burrows who came out of no where. I certainly didn't expect him to have the type of impact that he ended up having. He scored the goals when we needed him to and always seemed to show up when needed (except for the playoffs.
Anyway, who you guys think will step up this year and surprise us?
I still think Burrows can get to the next level, he had a good year last year, perhaps it was so magical because of his mission to win it all for Bourdon? I still think he'll want to come out and prove he's worth the new contract, and judging by the recent altercation on the ice, he's got a fire in his belly. I also think Kesler will step up this year.
What baffles me is Gillis appears to be a very careful and patient GM. He waited 6 months to sign Sundin for $5M for half a season - and Sundin turned out to be a big disappointment, especially for a player of his calibre. Yet, Gillis is still hoping that he'll be able to re-sign Sundin - but for how much? Then you have a player like Zherdev, who's 24 and extremely talented - and he'll sign for $4M for a full season. Why doesn't Gillis forget about Sundin and focus on getting a player like Zherdev? - who is a younger, better player and he comes at a cheaper price than what Sundin got last year. Does Gillis have something against Russian players? The Canucks don't have any.
