Really swinging the clubs great recently... but my short game has just been awful.

I'm talking like Im on are pretty close to every single green out there in regulation and still walk away from MOST holes with a bogey (or even a double if I am in the sand).

Its really frustrating to be on a long par 4... like 440 yards or something... Hit a perfect drive 280 down the middle... then hit a 6/7 iron in and be right there...and then take three shots to get the ball the last 10 yards into the hole.

And I practice my short game a decent amount... I just am always worse on the course!

Driving ranges opened up just recently here, driver, woods and my mid/long irons are feeling solid still. Just need to dial in my short game and putting. Just got back into it and shooting mid 80's last season was painful knowing that used to have a 4 handicap. Time to get my game back what it was in high school.

Well had my best 2 scores of the season back to back. Some things are finally clicking 83 on sunday then 82. It's a par 70, 127 slope course.

82 yesterday (2nd round of the year)....hit a bunch of greens...had a bunch of 3 putts. Easily could have been a 76 if the putting had been what it could be. I am thinking of getting hypnotized so that when I stand over 3-5 footers I think that I am somewhere else...I think I missed 3 or 4 in that range yesterday.

On a positive note...I bought 2 new hybrids (Taylor Made SuperLaunch 3 and 4 hybrid) over the winter...I may get rid of my driver altogether! I am hitting the 3 about 250 and the 4 about 225 and STRAIGHT! My driver and I have been in a multi year argument...it doesn't do what I tell it to do (perhaps I don't make it do what I tell it to do, but that is beside the point...lol). Although...on the 18th I unleashed a 325 yard bomb down the left center of the fairway...my playing partners and I couldn't find the ball because we were looking in the 280 range...only to see a ball 45 yards further down the fairway...marked with my traditional 3 dots! I have no idea what I did correct on the swing....but if the driver and I got along like that all the time...the game would be that much more fun!

Have you had you driver fitted? I had major inconsistency issues with my driver. If I hit it straight it would go about 260 but most of te time it would slice or I'd get a brutal snap hook off of it.

Needed to get one of my clubs reshafted so I decided to get my driver fitted at the same time to see if it corrected my issues. The guy watched me hit a few balls and had me try out a couple different driver configurations. Turned out my driver was too long, had the wrong shaft, and had the wrong overall weight. Since then I've never had a problem, I'll hit 75% of the fairways regularly and I stay within the trees. Even picked up some distance, ball drops at 290 and depending on roll, im usually picking up between 10-15 yards of roll. Best thing I ever did. Even took my fairway woods to him and am ordering a new set of fitted irons this summer. I will always have my clubs fitted from now on.

I was fitted for my current irons, but I have never had a driver fitted. I just will never be able to justify spending $400+ on a driver...just can't do it (1. my wife would kill me and 2. I simply don't see the need to drop that kind of $$$ on ONE club that isn't used to put the ball in the hole)! I wait a year or so and get last year's $400 driver slightly used for $75...right now I am playing a Titleist 907 D1 with a stiff Aldila Prototype shaft. I hit this better than any of my previous drivers...just not as consistent as I would like. I will say that I know what I am doing when I mishit the damn thing...I just can't stop myself from doing it from time to time (coming up at times, trying to kill it other times, and releasing my hands too early other times).

If I ever come into a large sum of money...I will definitely have that fitted (as well as a putter...and or putting lessons!).

44 front with a triple and 39 on the back with 2 3 putts. Didn't hit the ball exceptionally well, but was able to scramble. I finally realize what I have been missing with a long game for most of my golf life...I have NEVER been able to hit a fairway wood...EVER! Bought the 2 Taylor Made hybrids (3 and 4) and am confident with them from 220-250 off the deck. Today, par 5s were finally a strength for me. I used to play them all as 3 shot holes and tried to rely on hitting greens and making birdie putts...I am not a professional, so hitting greens isn't a certainty....which means that when I miss greens on par 5s I would then have to rely on "chip and a putt". Today I was able to get greenside or on all 4 par 5 greens in 2...made 1 bird, had kick in pars on 2 others after narrowly missing birdie attempts, and took a bogey with a penalty stroke on the other.

I am looking forward to the summer when I get to play a lot more and am able to spend some time working on the short game. This is the year that I have an even par or better 18...I will not rest until I make that happen...I have had several under par 9s but haven't gotten better than 3 over for 18...my goal is to change that this year!

I just started taking golf up again after a pretty lengthy hiatus. Got two rounds in last week, one of which was a charity scramble at Foxwood casino. Nice course, and luckily I played with a couple of people that were pretty good.

Took my clubs in for a tuneup and regripping. Found that my grips were still a bit small. Already had a triple wrap and had to add two more wraps of tape. Hands felt way quieter at the range and was really able to work the ball better.
Played my first round of the season on Sunday and shot a 79. Putting was horrendous on the front but was able to pull that part of my game back together after the turn. Went from 2.3 putts per hole on the front to 1.4 on the back. Tried my new Taylormade driver on a couple holes, didn't like it. Going to have to get it reshafted and everything. Felt amazing when I caught it right but I kept fading it big time, it feels awkward. The weight is different and it just feels weird throughout the swing. So I just hit my 5w off the tee for the rest of the round.

Shot an 85 at a TPC course and was pretty pleased with that.
    41-44.
Could have been better but I chipped a ball into the water on the back nine.

Friday I'm going out to TPC Snoqualmie Ridge for my first round of golf in like 11 months. This will be interesting...

76 (+5) with a bogey-double finish...Never before have I left the golf course after shooting in the 70's and been so freaking aggravated! My goal for the summer was to shoot one 18 hole round at even par...through 16 holes was only +2...then, made 2 bad decisions that screwed me.

Front 9...8 pars in a row then a bogey on the par 3 ninth (missed green and was treed, nearly made par putt from 15 feet). Back 9...4 pars in a row, a good bogey after a bad break off the tee left me treed, 2 more pars...then, STUPIDITY struck!

Oh well...can't wait to go again!
