He was Designated for Assignment, meaning the Reds had 10 days to trade, outright, or release him. Since it was his first time and he has under 5 years of big league time, he couldn't refuse the assignment.

It must have been before BP got hurt or something. I had a feeling the guy was wrong but I thought I'd report it anyway. Sorry guys.

Shoulder fatigue yeah he isn't really hurt its just way to put a guy on the DL and not use a roster spot.

I wonder what roster moves will be made today to get Chapman and Harang on the 25 man roster. Any guesses?

My postgame wrap up for opening night:

Cook and Costanzo shine, but Mudcats fall in opener

The Carolina Mudcats opened its 21st season in Zebulon on Thursday night against the Mobile Baybears in front of a small 2,884 opening-night crowd. Former big league Daryl Thompson got the nod for manager David Bell as the ace of the Mudcats starting rotation. The former big leaguer didn’t disappoint, allowing only four hits over five innings while punching out four. The only black mark on Thompson’s outing was a first inning home run to first baseman Paul Goldschmidt.

Six-year free agent signing David Cook impressed in his first game in the Reds organization as the left fielder hit a two-run home run in the second inning to give the Mudcats a 3-1 lead. Third baseman Mike Costanzo started off 2011 with a bang, 3-3 with two doubles and a triple while driving in one in the opener.

Thompson was relieved by former first rounder Brad Boxberger. The righty threw two scoreless frames before Bell turned the ball over to setup man Justin Freeman. Freeman surrendered a single run in his only inning of work. Left-handed closer Donnie Joseph, with a 4-2 lead, came to shut the door on the Baybears in the ninth. A do or die play to shortstop Miguel Rojas that resulted in a base hit started the unraveling for Joseph and the Mudcats. Joseph (0-1) ended up giving five earned runs, including a three-run home run to Goldschmidt, giving the Baybears a 7-4 lead and eventual win to start the 2011 campaign.

The Baybears (1-0) and the Mudcats (0-1) will face off again Friday night a 7:15.

Is it time to give Alonso a shot in left field and Cozart a shot at shortstop? Lewis has been okay and Heisey has been good off the bench and Gomes seems to be coming around a little.

•Jim Riggleman will accept the Reds' offer to manage their Double-A affiliate, writes Adam Kilgore of The Washington Post. Earlier today, Heyman reported that Riggleman was offered the position and was likely to accept.
