    Respect?

What's up all. I was just having a conversation with a Red Sox fan in which the question was raised: "Are there any Yankees that you have respect for, and if so, who were they?"

Now, I'm sure this is well worn territory here, but I was curious as to what your take would be. If you had to pick a "top 5 current Yankees that you respect", who would they be?

Since I'm a Yankee fan posing this question, I'll start by listing the 5 Red Sox players I respect the most, in no particular order.

    1. Mike Lowell
    2. Jason Bay
    3. Jacoby Ellsbury
    4. Dustin Pedroia
    5. Jason Varitek

    Those last two hurt .

Derek Jeter...he's one of the most respectable players in baseball. The same is true of Mariano Rivera and Jorge Posada. Robinson Cano seems like a good guy, but I don't know much about him. I like Brett Gardner too.

There are only two I don't respect, they are Joba and Arod. I guess respect comes over time, so my most respected would be(in order):
    1. Jeter
    2. Mariano
    3. Posada
    4. Cano
    5. Melky

Sabathia, Burnett would be on the list, but I was thinking you wanted Yanks with some years in the org.

Jeter and Mo have my respect
Limitations are for people that have them, and excuses are for people that need them.

    1. Derek Jeter - For the same reason Osiagledknarf said. Very respectable, I remember when he first came up, he called Joe Torre, Mr. Torre. Not to mention all the dimes he's hooked up with. If I had my dick in one of his girlfriends, I could die the next day and be satisfied.
    2. Andy Pettitte - I know, I know, he took steroids, but he apologized, and in my opinion it was sincere.
    3. Francisco Cervelli - I honestly don't know too much about the kid, but after beating out the grounder to Brian Roberts a couple games back, that got my attention.
    4. Nick Swisher - The Bombers' version of Kevin Millar.
    5. Hideki Matsui - Ugly as ****, but the man does his job. I know he can't field anymore, but he produces. Never outta line, real professional.

...But at the same time I despise A-Rod, Joba, Mo, Canu, Damon and Posada.

    I respect:

    1. Jeter (Gotta respect someone who plays the game the right way every day)

    2. Rivera (Maybe the best closer of all-time, and a complete professional)

    3. Pettitte (Goes out and does his job, doesn't show up anyone while doing so)

    4. Posada (Another mainstay in the Yankee organization, great player for years)

    5. Matsui (Prototypical Japanese player and a real professional hitter)

I don't respect Joba because he shows people up when he's accomplished nothing. I don't respect Cano either, because he comes off as arrogant.

Jeter and Mo, love both of them.

I used to love Torre as well, but he's not with the team anymore.

Currently I would say Jeter. My favorite Yankee player of all time was Don Mattingly.

A note about Mattingly, when I was a little kid I wrote to him and asked for an autographed picture. A couple weeks later sure enough, I got a signed picture in the mail. No self addressed stamped envelope, no money, just a letter asking him for an autographed pic and he sent one. I realize it wasn't him personally that sent it but it was still cool.

Of course I ended up giving the picture away to this girl I had a crush on...and I didn't even get anything from her for that!
