Dodger's Payroll/ Starting Pitching!

OK, Manny is gone for 50 games. Manny is going to forfeit almost $8 million of his salary. What are Uncle Ned and cousin Frankie going to do with this surplus of money?
Given, ticketing revenue’s will go down (a bit) over the next “50” games... but nonetheless, Frank owes his fans more than what he is giving us.

Nobody can argue with the FACT that to start this season we were lacking incredibly in the “Starting Pitching” department… (& our bullpen is weak too!)

Talks of bringing back Pedro came about… but nothing came of it (and who knows if he would have helped us or not)

This season the Dodgers payroll is:
2009: $100,414,592
For 2008 it was:
2008: $118,588,536
I thought Frank was gonna serve it up this year and at least keep the salary between $115 & $120mil?

Yet our salary, at $100 mil is the 9th highest in baseball

What do we do with all this SURPLUS of CASH!!! We need a dynamite starting pitcher!

If you are a Giants fan or some other Yahoo who is pissed that the Dodgers are so good & have the best record in all of baseball, then go be a sore loser in your own forum. Oh ya, & P.S. Where are you getting 100 from? I thought it was closer to $90M before the suspension on is now around $82

Nice Dodgerballs... I totally agree. Great info on your post! We DO have a surplus in cash, and Mr McCourt needs to do something for the fans. Pedro isn't a top of the line starter that would be good enough. He is like another Randy Wolf. We need a Roy Halladay or a "Zack Greinke". We have an amazing Minor League system. We wouldnt even have to give up any of our starters.

Halladay? Would the BJ's give up Halladay? Not likely. they just signed him to a "discount deal" maybe if we paid them straight cash and I dunno... but not likely. I am really interested to see who people think the Dodgers can get as far as starting pitching. In my mind, shove away some of the Farm system... This is the year to SHOW ME DA MONEY! Manny will be back in July, giving him 2 months to get nasty before the PostSeason... If the Dodgers get 1 money, top of the line starter they will be unstoppable!

Do the Dodgers really not pay Manny for suspended salary? Isn't this like the NBA when a players gets suspended and forfeits that games pay. It goes to the players union or the league instead of the player and than I believe gets used in their charity programs. So I don't think this lost salary for Manny helps the dodgers. Correct me if I am wrong.

All of those are about 10-15 mil off because Manny's deal is back loaded.

Cots is off by $15M because all McCourt is paying is $10M this year for Manny (which cots has him as $25M for 09). Therefore the payroll is around $85M before the suspension and now around $78M

That is true about Manny's deal being "back Loaded"... All of the sites on Baseball salary's have it off in that case. I didn't think about it from that perspective. Maybe they are calculating it as how much is committed for each year, as compared to how much we are actually paying the player?

and smdodgerfan, I dont know about not paying Manny for the suspended salary thing? I was under the impression that Manny doesnt give us the "50 games" of service, so we dont pay him for that period of time?
If you are right, then that is absolute CRAP! I am pissed if we have to pay the players union or the League 7.7 Freakin Million! That is a load of crap. I hope that is incorrect, and if it is not, then dont tell me, because I dont want to send boxes full of My fat terds to the players union office! haha

Juan Pierre NEEDS to step up & improve his tradability!!! He has been pissed about not getting any playing time. Well, now is his chance to shine & prove his worth. if he does, We can dish off Pierre & SOME CASH, and also a few minor league players to get the pitching we need!

I guess I didn't clarify my point very well... over the next 50 games, Juan Pierre needs to step up & produce well.. So he can improve his tradability. Juan has been pissed about not starting over the last few years & the Dodgers are not a good fit for him.
