    2015 Official Offseason thread

Well now that it's here I thought I was time for our offseason thread.

Like usual a dumping ground for news, FA moves, personal ideas, trades, ect, ect.

    Ok, Opinion time for me.

    Coaching Staff:
I think Haley's contract expired. I would like to see him back, warts and all. All the offensive position coaches are safe.

I think the defense needs overhauling. Lots happened there this year that was dissapointing. I think that LeBeau/DL/LB coaches kinda need to go. For as many problems as we had in the secondary, the front 7 was horrible. Between taking 14 weeks to start Tuitt, to the lack of a rush, to terrible gap discipline we need something. Some names I want to throw out there for DC: Leslie Frasier (worked with Tomlin in TB and Minny), Vic Fangio, Steve Spagnolo. Let whoever we bring in work with Tomlin make a defensive staff that they want.

    Extensions:
Extend Ben. I think they can do it in a way to lower is near $20 million cap hit for 2015. I mean I would be working on that today.

Work on extensions for Heyward and McClendon.

    Resignings:
Brice McCain *** Only if we're bringing him back for depth. Sometimes these guys come back and just get the starting job.

Artur Moats He worked well as a situational pass rusher. I liked him here for his solid depth and ST play.

Will Johnson Though rarely used he's quite a servicable H-Back/FB

    Free Agents:
Now I know we all have our pie in the sky targets. But here are some "bargain" FA's I got my eye on because they will be in the group after the high priced guys. They are good targets that fit our needs.
    Brian Orakpo OLB
    Devin McCourty S
    Michael Crabtree WR
    Jerry Hughes DE/OLB
    Walter Thurmond CB
    Mark Ingram RB
    Mike Jenkins CB
    Sam Acho OLB
    Cecil Shorts WR
    Byron Maxwell CB

If we come out of that with Acho/Hughes, McCourty, Thurmond, Maxwell, Shorts I will be elated.

    Draft
Now I know you can't get all these guys, but its players I have my eye on for the time being that fill some needs, and might be able to play day one.

    La'El Collins OT
    Kevin Johnson CB
    Shilique Calhoun DE/OLB
Mario Edwards DT/DE (if we go to a 4-3)
Alvin Dupree DE (if we go to a 4-3)
    PJ Williams CB
    Owamagbe Odighizuwa DE/OLB
    Lorenzo Mauldin DE/OLB
    Marcus Peters CB
    Jalen Collins CB
    Mike Davis RB
    Ameer Abdullah RB

Outside of OL this FA class has the potential to be stacked. Add in the booming cap, our contracts coming off the books, and contract extentions that lower cap numbers, and this offseason has the potential to be a big impact for us.

I've seen anywhere from $140-155 Million. Depends on the final numbers from TV contracts.

Now we are at $135 Million, but we can easily get to the $120/115 area with restructures/extensions/cuts/retirements.

I'd love us to offer a big deal to Houston but I'm afraid it'd come back to bite us

I'm not fot that. I rather get 2-3 of the guys we mentioned in FA and draft another and let them battle on cheaper contracts.

    FWIW for the draft:

And on the OLB/Pass rusher front:

I'm hearing the Trent Cole is a high potential cut from Philly. If he is, he's number 1 on my list. High production like Houston at a fraction of the cost.

My only concern would be him dropping into coverage

He actually has handled it well in Philly. Just don't ask him to man up. He's a zone guy as an OLB. But I think if they did a rotation where he was a pass rush specialist it would work.

I'd like to extend DeCastro, Heyward, Ben.

Rip up Beachums contract for a new one now. Give him more money in the present. Save us money in the long run.

Retain: Moats, Will Johnson, McCain, Antwon Blake. Evaluate more later.

I would like to cut/push to retire: Ike Taylor, Brett Keisel, Polamalu, Cam Thomas, Lance Moore, Cortez Allen

    Areas of Weakness
    1. CB
    2. OLB
    3. S
    4. TE
    5. RB
    6. CB
    7. DL Depth

I think its important we draft a corner early. But also bring one in on free agency. Cromartie is the best fit. But id like us to pursue the hometown guy Revis.

Round 1 Targets: PJ Williams CB FSU, Donte Fowler Jr OLB UF.
