    Mets Top Pitching Prospects

I don't get why so many teams out there have homegrown Aces but we can only manage to produce 0 since Doc Gooden and Scott Kazmir doesn't count. Now I could be wrong on this but correct if I'm wrong please.

I mean I see guys like Tim Lincecum, Cole Hamels, Brandon Webb, Jon Lester, Roy Oswalt, Jake Peavy, to name a few. Even guys like Santana, Sabathia, Burnett, Zito, guys who signed huge FA contracts. I never seen in my years watching baseball any homegrown Mets pitchers receive any huge deals like that and never seen any pitchers we can compare to Lincecum, Hamels, etc. Except maybe when Izzy got better when we sent him to STL but he doesn't compare to those guys either. Remember Paul Wilson and Bill Pulsipher our saviors?

Will Pelfrey be our 1st in a very long time? Who knows? Is Guerra Mulvey or Humber gonna turn out to be potential Aces in MIN? Who knows?

SO with all that being said, which one of these guys from our farm system do you think has the best shot at being a homegrown Ace? (excluding Mike Pelfrey)

I like what I'm hearing on Holt too. We need more power pitchers I'm glad we stood with Pelfrey over Humber. Niese reminds me of Humber a lil. Soft tossing but good control.

Yeah but when it's a lefty coming through the system, management tends to regard that a little higher.

Mulvey and Humber are duds. Guerra can very much be an ace though.
As for us, I like Holt, but if Mejia keeps doing well and he'll get better, he can be very good.

From what I saw stat wise... didn't Holt have control problems in college... I believe he's top five in walks and top three if not number one in hit batters. His minor league stats look great but does he have any control problems at all. His Whip in the Minors is low so I'm not sure... just asking. I like the size of him and the stats hes put up so far though...Also... Parnell

(sorry about the way that looks)
He had one good year in 2005.... is he really expected to improve because those minor league stats(no triple A and still a high ERA) aren't very impressive. Good fastball but I'd like to know a little more about him(and Holt)

Yea but who knows, he can wind up getting what Heilman always cried over, a chance to start. Has he always been a reliever though? I'm not sure. Anyway Kunz's possibilities are slim but it wouldn't be the 1st time a RP is converted into a SP.

I'm gonna assume Eddie Kunz will stay in the bullpen...kinda eliminating him from "ACE" contention...

Kunz was, is, and always HAS been a bullpen candidate.

    Not a dud...

    Yet.

Ok ok guys I get it with Kunz. Where's the Delorian so I can go back in time and erase him as an option?

Holt is the clear choice here, but you gotta love the fastball from mejia and the fact that moviel is 6"11' puts him up there as a possibility.
