I know he has had some serious health problems the last few years but I think a guy like him is still worth looking at. Prior to his injuries he was one of the most dominant pitchers in the league and although his number the last 2 years have not been good, that is largely due to injury. Mulder reminds me alot of when the sox signed Wade Miller except I think Mulder has a better chance to succeeded because the sox could maybe even put him in the bullpen if he shows he can still pitch. Also, Mulder is not being actively pursued and he could be a cheap risk for the sox to take.
