gretzky: Jokinen to miss 2-4 weeks
Coyotes center Olli Jokinen will be sidelined for at least two weeks because of a shoulder injury, Head Coach Wayne Gretzky said after Thursday’s practice at Jobing.com Arena.

Jokinen, who ranks first on the team with 11 assists and second with 18 points, suffered the injury Wednesday night in Columbus when he was checked into the boards by Blue Jackets defenseman Marc Methot in the first period.

“We don’t know for sure, but it looks like (he’ll be sidelined) for two to four weeks,” Gretzky said. “This gives other guys opportunities to step up. … At the end of the day, it could be a good thing for this hockey club. Now in saying that, we’re definitely going to miss what he brings to the team, but this gives him a few weeks to rest and regroup, and when he comes back he’ll be fresher.”

Because of the injury, Jokinen’s streak of consecutive games played will end at 397. He last missed a game during the 2002-03 season while with Florida.

In other news, Gretzky said backup goaltender Mikael Tellqvist (2-1-1) would start Friday’s home matinee against Colorado. It will be Tellqvist’s second consecutive start in place of Ilya Bryzgalov.

“We’ll see what happens now,” Gretzky said, referring to his goaltending situation. “If (Tellqvist) is going well, we need to win hockey games. It’s as simple as that.”

Meanwhile, forward Daniel Winnik was taken off the injured reserve list on Thursday and will play Friday after missing six games because of an upper body injury.

“It’s good to get back on the ice and my legs feel good,” Winnik said.

Winnik likely will play as a left wing on a line with center Martin Hanzal and right wing Mikkel Boedker.
