MINNEAPOLIS (TICKER) —Minnesota Wild defenseman Brent Burns was injured during warmups prior to the team’s 3-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday, according to a published report.
Burns suffered an upper body injury during warmups, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Blue-liner Tomas Mojzis took his spot in the lineup but left the contest in the second period, also with an upper body injury.
“Guys are stepping up,” Eric Belanger told the newspaper. “We lost ‘Burnzie’. We lost (Mojzis) after a couple shifts. It’s tough on us, but as a player, you want to play, you want to be out there. A lot of guys stepped up.”
The report said the team confirmed that Burns should be ready in time for Tuesday’s game against the San Jose Sharks.
Burns, 23, has three goals and one assist in nine games this season.
A first-round pick of the Wild in 2003, Burns scored 15 goals and recorded 28 assists in 82 games for the Wild last campaign.
