i would have thought that the 60s would win by a long shot
through every decade i could analyze and find just as many cheesy acts as there were ground-breaking ones. i chose the early 90's only because that is what i grew up in and it is when the bands that were on major labels were just as strong as the bands that were on indie labels. it was also when Rap was really becoming a genre with some depth to it.
the late 60's had a similar energy to all the music that was out there but other than the Who and maybe Hendrix it lacked the punk rock energy that i connect with that was really developed until the mid to late 70's.
60s. Has always been my favorite decade for music. The Beatles, The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, etc.
Nothing beats the 90's
90's
Cobain and Staley were two of the best!!!!
80s. Master! Master! etc.

If you're going by talent is really isn't close. Paul and John beat ever other decade by themselves lol. Throw in harrison, dylan, jimi, page, plant, jagger, richards, elvis, ray, townshend, daltrey, gaye, morrison, clapton, simon and garfunkel... yeah.

80's easily for me, easily had the most unique sound and had an attitude that hasn't been matched by any other decade. Rock was very solid during this decade and pop was at its peak.... a peak that will probably never be reached again.

hahaha I can't believe the 90's is in first. So funny.

For diversity, 1964 with the british invasion to the mid 70s when disco cursed the world with it's present. In the movie School of Rock, Black broke it down perfectly. I don't know if he included Latin Rock with Santana, Black Rock with Sly and the Family Stone, who help started funk and a forerunner of Prince. Also Jazz Rock with Miles Daves as it's father (damn that dude touched alot musical trends) and Return to Forever.RB had the smooth sound of Motown, staxx had the rough sound of Ike and Tina Turner, Otis Redding. Bluesy soul had Etta James. The Philly sound had the O-Jays and Al Green. Funk: Bootsy, Parliment and the Brother Johnsons. For diversity, that was the golden years of creative. I don't think any other period had so many different voices. My music collection ran from blues, jazz, soul, rock, and folk (the last two I got dogged about in the hood, but good music is good music).

It was a revolutionary decade, but i don't feel that it was the peak.
