After sending a year in Finland Janis Sprukts signed a one-year contract with the Florida Panthers.
Sprukts was in the Panthers system but bolted for Finland when the club wouldn't give him a one-way contract. Last season Sprukts scored 12 goals and added 17 assists for Lukko of the Finnish Hockey League. The year before that the 26-year-old Latvian had 18 goals and 41 assists for the Panthers' AHL affiliate Rochester Americans. He was the MVP of the Americans that year but don't expect him to be in the Panthers line-up at the start of the season. Florida already has 12 one-way forwards under contract so he'll likely start in Rochester and become an injury call-up later in the season. Having said that he'll be worth a look once he's called up and should be available on the waiver wire in your fantasy league if he performs well in his first few games.
