OSU among leaders in 2009 ESPN Top 150 Recruits

On Tuesday, our friends at ESPN and Scouts Inc. released their initial ESPN 150 list of top football prospects for 2009. The list will be updated through national signing day on Feb. 4.

Currently, six of Ohio State's 24 verbal commitments appear in the ESPN 150. That group is led by Pennsylvania linebacker Dorian Bell at No. 16. Next is Clayton (Ohio) Northmont cornerback C.J. Barnett at No. 73 and Pickerington (Ohio) Central safety Jamie Wood at No. 93.

Other OSU prospects on the ESPN 150 list include Garfield Heights, Ohio, defensive end Melvin Fellows (No. 107), Toledo St. John's offensive lineman Jack Mewhort (No. 122) <--(MY ALMA MATER!) and Florida wide receiver Duron Carter (No. 150).

In addition to Hall, Ohio State has offers pending to several other key prospects, including Florida RB Jaamal Berry (No. 11), Arizona DT Corey Adams (No. 51) and Pennsylvania DB E.J. Banks (No. 131).

LSU, Texas and USC all have nine ESPN 150 verbals. Ohio State and Georgia are next with six. Clemson has five, while Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Florida each have four.

If we could land Jaamal Berry (RB-FL) that would be an awesome replacement for Beanie Wells.
