    Pitching Prospects

If you had the choice of Kershaw, Chamberlain, Buccholz, or Price, which one would you pick to build a team around?

Despite my user name, I'd go with Price

I'd go Price over Kershaw but not by a lot.

Both are so good, it's a tough decision. Price throws a bit harder and has a slider while Kershaw throws the curve.

I don't think Joba is a prospect anymore. But maybe he hasn't pitched enough, although I'm sure he has.

    First....it's Buchholz

Second, I don't think the comparisons are fair. Price just got drafted, Joba's starting, Buchholz is starting and has already thrown a no-hitter and Kershaw has thrown a handful of starts in the ML already.

I'd say the only fair comparison is Joba/Buchholz, and maybe you can add Kershaw to that group.

Price is going to get called up mid-august, so he's almost as ready as Joba and Buccholz. Kershaw as you said has already pitched in the bigs. If you read the question, I asked which one you'd rather build your team around.

What's your reasoning for picking Buccholz BTW? I'm curious to see whether there's any other reason besides the fact that he pitched a no hitter.

He has pitched enough, he isn't a prospect, but is still a young pitcher who is in the same boat as these other guys.

Price by a ALOT. Power stuff, very polished with really good command. But then again if Kershaw had the seasoning Price did..

How could anyone pick Price over Kershaw. Kershaw is 20, Price is 23. Kershaw and Price both throw about the same speed on their fastball. Also, Kershaw is already in the majors and price is not. Plus if you want to build around a pitcher, wouldn't you rather build around a guy 3 years younger.

When they're 20 and 23 it really doesn't matter that much, so you only have Price for 17 years instead of 20 years of Kershaw, big deal. The thing that really concerned me about Kershaw was his command, from what I've seen it hasn't been that good and that's something that may never come, whereas Price, from the sounds of things has it all, I definately think he's the better of the two today despite being in AA and Kershaw being in the Majors.
Loose seal. Watch out for loose seal.
