Not a fair comparison at all, both have their importance. Why dont you compare something like Utley vs. Uggla vs. Kinsler and Hanley vs. Jose vs. Rollins

Compare a leadoff man to a cleanup hitter. That makes sense.

Utley is better but the numbers aren't that far off. Reyes ia leadoff hitter though so the comparison sux.

Utley would be a better leadoff hitter than Reyes anyways. I don't see how this comparison sucks. The only reason it's bad is because Utley is the superior player by far.

Utley is a run producer, Reyes makes things starting. Reyes is a SS, Utley is a 2B. Reyes is 25 and developing, Utley is at his career high now.
    Fair comparison indeed.

Wanna show me Utley's numbers when he was 25?

Oh I'll add that Utley plays in a baseball heaven for hitters especially LH and Reyes doesn't.

If you put Utley in Reyes' spot, Utley would produce more than Jose. Utley would be a better leadoff hitter without question.

Reyes is a SS, Utley is a 2B.
So what? Comparing players at different positions is fine, as long as you factor that in.

Reyes is 25 and developing, Utley is at his career high now.
Utley has about 2500 MLB at bats and 1648 minor league at bats, so about 4148 AB total.

Reyes has about 2900 MLB at bats and 1303 minor league at bats, so about 4203 total.

Reyes was added by the Mets in 1999, Utley was drafted in 2000.

Reyes is more a get on base, steal a base and score on SF/groundball kinda hitter. Just different than Utley who is a RBI guy like Pujols or A-Rod.

That's like comparing Pujols to Ichiro IMO.

Utley hands down. He could give you what you need and produce at any spot in the lineup.
