Whoever doesnt say Rivera just doesnt know baseball. I hate the Yankees but Rivera is the best closer in the history of the game. It's incredible how consistent he is.

As a Blue Jay fan, I get the "delight" of seeing Rivera several times a year. When he comes into the game, I know the game is over. I dont get that definite of a feeling with any other closer. The next closest would be Papelbon.
Could not agree more. Mo comes in and shuts down. He defines the fear that batters have of closers. No-one else commands that type of aura. Papelbon kind of has that kind of fear, but that may just because he makes funny faces. That splitter of his may one day rival Mo's cutter. But I think its fair to say when you think of closer, you think Mo. When someone mentions a cutter, you think Mo. When someone mentions a broken bat, you think Mo.

K-Rod is an unbelievable closer, but I will give Mo all the credit in the world. He never tails off, he is always at the top of the stats every year.

Obviously Mariano. Not even close at this point. Someone else who dosnt get near enough reconition is Brian Wilson. It might be some what homerish, but hes leading the NL in saves and when the game is on the line, he is lights out, and hes only 26.

wow man, you usually make smart, intelligent comments, even when they are your crazy homerish calls. But this one I have to disagree. Brian Wilson is on my fantasy team, and he makes me cringe every time he manages to get called in. I think he has the potential to be great, but he is nowhere near that right now. We are talking about a guy who has a whip hovering at 1.5. That is terrible for a closer. He really needs to tighten is control. And give up less base hits. A 4.5 era and a 1.5 whip are nowhere remotely close to legitimate closer numbers.

You want a name of someone who doesn't get enough recognition, Joakim Soria.

Most of Brian Wilson's earned runs came in non-save opportunities.
