LAKings.com's Mike Kalinowski sat down with Assistant Coach and Director of Player Development Jamie Kompon for a preview of what the 39 Kings prospects that are in town for Development Camp can expect.

Some highlights from the interview:

Kompon said that "this is not an evaluation process, this is how to become a King."

On his goals with camp:
"It is going to be great to meet everyone and see them in a hockey type setting and a group type setting. We want to see where they are in terms of their training and skill level and where we want to take them from and get them to."

On GM Dean Lombardi's goals with camp:
"We drafted them, now you have to develop them."

On seeing some of the prospects grow and make the team:
"Last year we had a couple of players that were on our roster right up until the last moment that were on our roster right until we left for Europe and London."

On seeing the draft of '08 arrive:
"Just seeing the kids arrive, it was pretty exiciting, one of the kids said, 'wow, what a facility, this is unbelievable.'"

About Jamie Kompon
Kompon has completed two seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Kings and in his first as Assistant Coach and Director of Amateur Development. He was named to the club’s coaching staff on July 10, 2006.

Kompon, prior to coming to Los Angeles, worked for nine seasons with the St. Louis Blues organization where he most recently served as the club’s Video Coach, a position he first held since 1997. He added Strength and Conditioning Coach to his title during the 2002-03 season, and in the spring of 2006 he was on the coaching staff of Team Canada at the World Championship in Latvia where he served as Video Coach.

Prior to joining the Blues, Kompon was an Assistant Coach with the Baltimore Bandits of the American Hockey League for the 1996-97 season and he also served as Co-Head Coach at McGill University in Montreal in 1994-95 after being employed there as an Assistant Coach for three seasons.

Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Kompon, 41 (9/18/66) also played four seasons as a defenseman at McGill (1985-89) and then he played two seasons of professional hockey, including stints in the East Coast Hockey League and in the German Elite League.
