BLUE JACKETS, UMBERGER AGREE TO NEW FOUR-YEAR CONTRACT
The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed centre R.J. Umberger to a four-year contract the club announced today. Terms were not disclosed.
Columbus acquired the forward and fourth-round draft pick from the Philadelphia Flyers last month for a first round draft pick and a third-round draft pick.
"Acquiring R.J. last month was an important first step in our efforts to improve the hockey club this summer and we are pleased that he will be a part of our organization for the next four years," said GM Scott Howson. "He is a competitive, hard-working player who will add versatility to our top six forwards."
Umberger is no stranger to Ohio, having player for the OSU Buckeyes for three seasons. The native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania scored 13 goals and 37 assists in 74 games last season.
