Exactly. He's a baseball sophomore for eligibility reasons, but is still a freshman overall.

Actually, this spring semester is the first semester of his sophomore year. He'll finish his sophomore year this fall and his junior year next fall (2010). The problem for him is the MLB Draft is held in June of each year. So he'll be at Clemson until he can be drafted in June 2011.

Certain groups of players are ineligible for selection, generally because they are still in school. The basic categories of players eligible to be drafted are:

High school players, if they have graduated from high school and have not yet attended college or junior college; College players, from four-year colleges who have either completed their junior or senior years or are at least 21 years old; and Junior college players, regardless of how many years of school they have completed.

Parker started school in the spring of 2008. The earliest he'd complete his junior year is fall of 2010. The first MLB draft available to Parker would be the June 2011 draft.

Dabo Swinney released his post-spring depth chart May 11. The Tigers are returning 15 starters and 53 letterman, and still haven’t answered the biggest question for the team - who will be the starting QB. Willy Korn was the heavy favorite to take over the reigns after the ‘08 season, but a strong showing by 2-sport star Kyle Parker has evened the playing field.


On the front lines, Landon Walker, Cory Lambert and true freshman JK Jay are neck and neck for the right offensive tackle position.

Like I said, Tajh Boyd is obviously sitting this year out. I think Walker will probably win the RT battle, although I hope J.K. Jay gets some reps. He could be a high draft pick by the end of his career. I wonder why they have Sapp and Alexander as battling for the Bandit? I guess Sapp's knee isn't 100%, he's far and away a better player.

The Tigers, with a comeback 6-5 win against Oklahoma State last night in the Regional Championship game, move on to a Super Regional match up against Arizona State.
