Schremp and MacDonald are almost definites. Hamonic, Kohn, and Joensuu I would say all have a 75+% chance of being with the big club for at least some increment of time. Koskinen has a solid shot, since DP is never a sure thing when it comes to health and Roloson is 41 and less durable then he's been in the past. Now that Petrov is staying in the KHL for another year or 2, Niederreiter could actually start the season with the ISlanders, I definitely wouldn't rule that out. De Haan is still rather small and should play another year in juniors. I would doubt he's here at any time. Everyone els eis most likely out of the picture, except for Rakhshani... he could play for the Isles this year...

kabanov neds to put on some weight on draft day he was around 175-180 and for a guy who is 6'3" that isnt that big

when youre 18 though, muscle growth and weight gain happens much more rapidly because testosterone levels are at your all time high...he could easily put on 10lbs of muscle from the time he was drafted through training camp

I didn't "forget" Kabanov I just don't think he had a shot at playing for us this year. you're right about that Arliss, about the muscle growth thing. But, he was 6'3 176 at draft time. When he's a power forward and he's compared to a guy like Ilya Kovalchuk who is 230 at his same height, Kabanov would get knocked over by John Tavares. When our forward depth is pretty good, with more nHL ready guys, i think he doesn't have a shot. I mean Niederreiter is 6'3 205, and if he reaches his potential he draws comparisons to Rick Nash 6'4 218, so I mean he's physically more ready, and if anyone can gain those 10 pounds of muscle by the season, it's Nino. Kabanov needs at least 20-30 to be ready imo. I mean seriously, Kabanov at 6'3 176 is like a stick....

i honestly dont know how i feel about joensuu, which is why i brought up kabanov..i want to like jj and obviously i hope he does well for the islanders, but what has he shown in the stints that hes been up with the isles..in 18g hes 2-2-4..granted the isles havent been an offensive force..but his career highs with any team are 20g in '08, 34a in '09 and 48 total points in '09...the guy hasnt exactly lit things up anywhere, so ive never been really sure of what the infatuation with joensuu is

I'm not a big Joensuu fan either. But really all he is is a 3rd liner and in fact he's probably already ready for the NHL. I picture Joensuu to be like a Trent Hunter for us, but one who can hit the net. Someone who can net 15-20 goals and around 45-50 points while being near the top of our team in hits and a penalty killer. Even though Kabanov cane be a 1st liner and NHL allstar in a few years (possibly), he's not ready and he'll get destroyed in the NHL if we rush him.Joensuu has been in the AHL, which is a pro league, and he's a very strong kid, and he should be able to pull what we expect of him in the long term.

I mean look at our forwards right now: Tavares, Okposo, Moulson, Bailey, Schremp, Comeau, Nielsen, Weight, Konopka, Hunter, Parenteau. Those guys are almost sure things to be on the roster. Imo, Niederreiter at this point easily has about 100X better chance of making the roster than Kabanov, simply because of where they were picked as one, and how much bigger and stronger Nino is at this point. Martin also has a good shot at making the team full time. Gillies could play 20-30 games this year for a physical preence. We re-signed Sim, and Joensuu, like I said, can pull his weight at this point, he has a contract and has been a pro, etc. All I'm saying is that we have the depth and the talent offensively, we have absolutely no reason to rush Kabanov, and if Garth even talks about a contract with him this year, it will be too soon.

For Parenteau, I disagree with those stats, simply because with him., i think it's either he has a Moulson like breakout year or he ends up as a reserve.

I also disagree about no prospects making it. I'd say Niederreiter has a greater than 50/50 shot at being on the team. bailey and Tavares, our last 2 1st's, both started right away, and both were less NHL ready than Niederreiter, imo.

And just saying, konopka has gotta be the center, not Weight, Konopka is great in face offs.

I agree about Martin, also a near lock imo. Just from my point of view I'd guess:

Imo the stats are optimal but very reachable with what these players have done in previous years, and taking their ages into account, and taking the overall improved performance of the team too.

228 goals, we had 214 last year, so i think it's reasonable when I mean it's almost impossible that we don't have a better year this year. i think we're a playoff team with our improved defense, maturing offense, and if DP is healthy, an all-star goalie.

i think tavares will score more than moulson this year. Id say tavares is around 40 and moulson will be low to mid 30s and KO will be low to mid 20s

i didnt geta chance to watch the prospects game last night but from what ive read:

-nino,ullstrom,figren,cizikas all looked good
-figren scored, and nino tipped in a shot from hamonic..nino also got into a fight
-de haan looked better than hamonic but hamonic was physical and fought
-mikko was 15-15 in the first
-kabanov was incosistent but showed flashes

Don't expect ANYTHING from diepietro, if he tries to be ready for the begining of camp he wont last 2 weeks into the season....

Hate to say it but the man is finished, the sooner we all accept that the better off the organization will be.
