3/38 is high in my estimation.
Oh, please no. Most of his value is obtained from being a CF who can steal 40 bases. He's 32 years old. Even if we moved Ellsbury to put Victorino in center, I still wouldn't want him.
310 wOBA, 94 wRC+? Even with defense, still not worth $40M.
Victorino for 3 years would be a mistake.
He was pretty bad against RHP last year, so it's not helping our problem against RHP, what with Gomes also in the OF.
It seems to me that this is an "Ellsbury won't be here long" signing.
By signing Victorino you've got somebody that's very much a CF capable of playing the corners.
Yeah wtf are they doing giving him almost $13M per year for 3 seasons. Bad.
I have a feeling Ellsbury is getting traded sooner than we think. This move confuses me.
If they still pursue Swisher after this then I'm going to assume Ells is getting dealt this winter.
Favorites /= on the verge. All it means is that they're in the lead to get him, and lets hope that's the closest we are to Victorino.

I think we are all forgetting Victorino was a 5.9 war player in 2011. He just had a down year last year.
If he plays like he did last year, then yes, he is no where near 38 million in value. But if he plays somewhat like he did in 2011 for the next 2 years and is a 3.5-5 War player, than he is worth it. In the last year he will be 35, can't hope of much other than an average OF type guy. But he would still be worth it if he can preform like he did in 2011.
Would love to get him in center field, trade ellsbury for a young, cost controlled SP, And then hopefully sign another OF to a short 1 or 2 year contract until some of the prospects come up.
Seems like a good, medium risk-high reward, type move to me.
