now he can finally go on and win that batting title people forecasted for him... only in Tampa
James Loney! The rays are clearly in a win now mode, with him at first i am surprised they would even consider trading price, you can practically smell championship coming.
Good for ma ***** James Loney, he's always gonna be ma dude, ask the Dodger forum
Loney's defense is gold glove caliber, but his offense is trash.
Slow bat, long swing. We'll see if Maddon&Co can turn him into something useful.
Speaking of a platoon partner, you think the Rays sign Juan Rivera as the right-handed complement? Or Mark Reynolds?
Not really a big signing, we all know the Rays are a team based on pitching. The offense doesn't mean much tbh. They wanna win games 4-3...and they'll be a contender in the AL East. Too much pitching.
Hm, could end up being a very good signing for Tampa Bay. Loney is a solid baseball player.
The only logical explanation I can come up with is this:
Loney's career in Tropicana Field: 417/481/708 (24 at bats).
Clearly the few times the Rays saw him, he hit like an MVP candidate. No wonder they signed him. They probably didn't bother scouting him for the rest of his at bats.
That's all I got, because there is never a good reason to sign James Loney.
Not bad of a pickup...assuming he'll platoon with someone else...
looney is a pretty meh signing
1 year/2 million is a solid deal
his value, per fangraphs (in millions):
06: 3.8
07: 8.2
08: 2.1
09: 7.3
10: 5.4

as long as he is platooning
Guess we aren't going to use the minor moves thread, ill quit posting in there
