The award is Johnny's to lose now.

The Gatorslayer should be at the ceremony though.

If Johnny Manziel doesn't win after today then its robbery.

got to be johnny now. klein ******** the bed against baylor opened the door for him. Teo might have a legit shot now too. probally wont be win, but he's probally more than an after thought since he plays defense now

If Johnny doesn't win then we need to change how the Heisman is decided. It would just be blatant anti-freshman bias.

we need to do that anyway. you can't tell me the bets player is a qb or runningback every single year

exactly, RBs and QBs are the only positions that get widely considered every year.

This is true. Just a few examples, I thought Ndamukong Suh should have won it in '08. Ingram won it with a very good season, but not a truly Heisman caliber year on the level of like Reggie Bush in '05 (I know it doesn't count) or Ricky Williams in '98. I also think Larry Fitzgerald should have won it over Jason White in '03 (and would have if voting weren't cut off before the conference title game).

Exactly. The award has become garbage because of the close-mindedness of the voters. You have to be on a top 10 team and be either a quarterback or running back to win the award.

I think the reason QBs and/or RBs are given the most consideration is because these are typically the difference makers on a team. Case in point: What would A&M be without Manziel? Mediocre? What would ND be without Te'o? Still a contender?
I don't agree that a team should have to finish in the top 10 for a player on that team to be considered for the Heisman that, unfortumately, tends to be the case.

Sorry for nitpicking because I like your overall argument, but Toby Gerhart should have won the Heisman. I totally agree that the Heisman criteria is flawed though.

troy smith is the one that burns at me. that was mcfaddens heisman, smith got it because he was the best qb on the top team (despite most of his highlights beign spectaculr plays by ted ginn, not great qb plays)
