It's depth. He's a guy that will probably back up Romine @ AAA and be called up if they need a backup catcher at the MLB level for a week. It's better than bringing up Romine, starting his arbitration clock, and burning an option for a short term injury.Quote:

Actually, his arbitration clock has not moved far yet. That is based on service time, which is still only his time last Sept (assuming that he spent the season on the minor league DL, no the MLB DL). What has happened though is that his time on the 40 roster means that now when he is in the minors, it takes an option to put him there, and they only have so many options they can use. Sending him down this past season means he has one less option.Quote:
