It seems that Lu is the key piece with the Canucks adding any top players to their roster. Lu wants to go to Florida, and that seems to be the only detination for him. This gives the Florida GM plenty of leverage, with what he's willing to give up to acquire Lu. Looks like both Lu and the Florida GM have the upper hands, while Gillis is acting patient and stubborn. The Canucks only have a couple million in cap space left, if Lu stays, which means we probably won't get Doan.
So, if you were Gillis, would you "give Lu away" to Florida for picks in order to clear the cap space, and make Doan a legit offer he can't refuse? or would you stand pat and keep Lu for the season, if the right deal doesn't happen with Florida? (meaning we would lose out on Doan)
I'd rather have Doan and Huet/Dan Ellis/etc.. than Luongo and a crappy top 6.
Looks like Doan may be staying in Phoenix, nothing final yet, but I expect it as I understand the team could be staying put. So, what will Gillis do now? Does he sign Arnott or does he go after Morrow? Any Lu news?
Well hopefully Gillis is smart enough to realize that Doan was likely going back to Phoenix so I'm sure he has a couple backup plans..
Here's Gilman on Doan:
