I just started watching Dexter and finally got caught up, so here are a few of my thoughts. I think everyone can agree that Season 1 was probably the best season. But I thought Seasons 2 & 3 were pretty weak. Entertaining, but not as good as the others. I didn't like the whole rehab angle and Lila as a character. Plus I thought Doakes was better from a comedic role rather than a serious character. I wish they did a little more character development, like they've done with Quinn to make him seem more dimensional. I actually liked Season 5 as one of my favorites. It kept me guessing the entire time and I thought the villian(s) were much more evil than some from other seasons. Plus I think it began a pretty cool transformation for both Dexter and Debra. I hated Debra for a while, but I think her going to therapy has helped her character alot, while I think the entire mess with Trinity has broken Dexter. I find myself rooting for Debra more now than Dexter because his choices just seem so much riskier for all the wrong reasons. He let's emotion get in the way of his actions now and it's cost him dearly. Before he was always several steps ahead, but now he's barely a step ahead because he's unraveling (which we saw in Season 6 with a sudden change to his Dark Passenger). And Debra is the one who is more calculating and in control of her emotions. At least more so than before. It's been great watching the two of them try to interact and has been taken to a whole new level this season.
As far as the latest episode and the preview for the finale: The more and more I think about it, as to what happened to Hannah the more and more I second guess. Debra definitely could have drugged herself because (a) the mechanic said the damage to the car should have killed the driver, so she could have jumped out last minute and gotten back in the car, then taken medication (b) she already planted evidence for Doakes, so she's now starting to go less and less by the rules (c) she told Hannah that she would do anything to stop Dexter from being with Hannah and (d) Debra and Hannah never talked about the investigation, so she lied to Dexter about that. On the other hand, it could very well be Hannah because (a) she told Dexter that she was hoping that Sal Price would crash his car after reacting to the poison. I don't believe Dexter told this to anyone so it would be a huge coincidence that Debra was almost killed the same way, (b) Hannah knew about the investigation after talking to Arlene and had a reason to take out Debra, (c) slight emphasis on Debra drinking water from the bottle when her and Hannah were talking, as well as blonde hair. Debra could have planted that because it seems obvious, but then maybe she didn't. Either way it's too hard to figure out with pure conviction who did what and I think that's great.
I also wonder if the preview of Doakes means that Doakes is going to be similar to Harry or his brother as a little voice. Maybe with the pressure waning on him, instead of having someone there consoling and providing advice, it will be someone trying to take him down. Harry was always there to oversee Dexter, until he started to give in to hatred after Brother Sam's death and then his brother came around. I would actually like to see the same thing happen with Doakes taunting Dexter now that LaGuerta is closing in on him. It would be much better than a dream sequence.
I like this..............
Dex going crazy?!? I like it.
Havent been this excited about a finale of Dexter since Trinity
Wow, you guys were right on, didn't see it ending like that though. And if next year is the last season then who's the villain? Does Angel go through Maria's stuff and he gets on to Dexter too?
This episode had my heart ****ing racing. Good ****. One of the show's better season's and the most plot progression since the second season probably. I felt like the writers actually took a chance this season and tried to be different or follow the same basic Dexter format.
this was a HUGE retribution season for dexter and the finale went off with a bang ..... i convinced myself that deb would be the one to silence laguerta a while back (due to their catty history and how much deb has elvolved this season) but the way the pulled it off was still awesome and next season is being set up to be VERY PROMISING!!!
Kinda sad knowing it will be wrapped up soon but excited to see the conclusion of this show and how it will all play out
Was intrigued to see how it would play out. New Dexter wouldn't be caught since they have at least 1 more season to go. Since Hannah escaped looks like we might be seeing her next season.
Wonder if that kill will make Deb emotionally weaker, or if it will make her have Dexter's approach..more of a stone cold personality. Wonder if she will do any more killing.
i always hated leguerta but i didnt want her dead by a morgan, hannah should have killed her
Woah...the final few minutes of that episode were intense. I figured LaGuerta was going to die, but wasn't sure if it'd be Deb or Dex to kill her.
Not sure what direction they go in for the final season.
Awesome episode and an awesome season.
I really really liked it.
A lot of us were wrong with deb druggin herself.
i havent posted here in a while since the show was declining but this season was awesome. I also guessed deb drugging herself but i was wrong. Eventhough i am happy with this season, i am sad because i know this show doesnt have much left.
i am not sure how i feel about deb killing laguerta. Deb and Dexter changed a lot this season and i think it was good for the show.
Some suggested Angel getting onto dexter but i dont think that happens. However i dont know how deb and dexter can get away this though, there seems to so many lose ends. I am also wondering if Hannah has anymore purpose on this show.
