Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. We as a fan base won't agree on Briere, dont get me wrong if his cap hit was lower he would be untochable, but his cap hit is stopping us from adding a star player to our young core to push us over the top. Some may say he is a star, in the playoffs he is a star, but he is going to be 35 yrs old, and if you could replace him with a 28 yr old superstar then what do u do.
We need to take advantage of our young core. We have so many players playing on friendly contracts that when its time to resign some we wont beable too in a salary cap world.
I agree we dont need much, but we do need to sign Vorachek, add 2 D-man, and maybe keep Jagr, or add a forward, and the way this off season is progressing nothing is coming cheap. Vokun 2 million to be a back up, D. Jones a slightly above forward getting 4 million a season. Teams that need to reach the ceilling of the cap are over paying for average guys. Some speculations have Carle getting around 5 million a season. So 10 million cap space is nothing. Putting Pronger on LTIR free up 4.95 million but that doesnt happen til game 1.
My offseason wish list is Praise, Vorachek, and 2 D-man (Odduya resigned), Stuart is going to sign on the west coast, that leaves Garrison, Salo, Weidman, Carle and some older players or no names.
