I'm a bit on the fence with the Kovy stuff. The kind of guys you'd have to trade to acquire him, especially within the division, is tough. We do have the prospects to get it done.
Guess part of me doesn't want to have to give up some guys b/c he will be a UFA. Plus he could always be picked up as a free agent by GMGM in the offseason without giving anything up. Just my 2 cents.
But  imagine the firepower on this team if we did get him.
This rumor has to be false for a few reasons.
1. Atlanta isn't looking for prospects and picks. (If Atlanta had some goaltending they would have a playoff spot) They want talent and some picks for pure talent.
2. This makes no sense for the Capitals because #1 means trading away Semin for a rental. This is quite pointless.
Now if the Capitals DID trade for Ilya this is what the deal would somewhat look like.
Semin
Neuvirth
Fehr
2nd Round Pick
FOR
Ilya
and either
a pick lower than 3rd round or a veteran player.
Nah I'd pass on Kovy, we don't need offense. Why is it that most of the rumors I heard involve getting a forward not a shutdown Dman?
Old news......
i dont know why we would trade semin.. He has all the same stuff as Kovy but he just has a problem with injuries.. If he played a whole season like Ilya does then he could probably but 45-50 goals a season up on the board
Kovi is much more complete & consistent than Semin. If the Caps could sign him to a longterm ~$8M per contract, I'd trade Semin, Theodore, Erskine, and a 3rd.
My latest dream trade is Semin, Bourque, Giroux to the goal-starved Flames for Phaneuf !
