Evgeni Malkin is close to signing a contract extension that would mirror that of teammate Sidney Crosby.
Crosby signed a five-year deal worth $8.7 million per season last summer, which will kick in this coming season. Malkin is still on his entry level contract for one more season, but is eligible to sign a contract extension as of July 1. Malkin blossomed this season when he finished second in scoring with 106 points in the regular season. He had 22 points in 20 playoff games, but did struggle in the final against the Cup winning Red Wings. This is good news for fantasy owners who worried about the reports that Malkin would sign a mega $15 million deal with a team in Russia.
