Well yea, to run a theocracy there must be a massive effort to hide facts from the general population or it wont run. In the older days that was much easier since generally only the elite had access to libraries and references. So they could literally write the history that the subjects studied. But even so if done right it can still be done, i mean a majority of Republicans are sure set on that being truth.

Oh they exist for long periods of time. Just look at the first 4000 or so years of human history. But they arent based on freedom, they are based on the enslavement of the "heathen" society. The Egyptians had the Jews, the colonies (in Africa) had the native Africans. The leaders and the aristocrats look down on the lower people as "lesser" humans. So unfortunately they do last for a long time primarily because the most loyal followers are EXTREMELY loyal.
