As for ezPM, I like the fact that it includes play by play data and specifically, counterpart defensive stats. That is a start in the right direction but again, with SportVu and Vantage, we can do so much more defensively now.
I'll give a more detailed response later but I just wanted to comment on the box score metric aspect. I think we're going to see the NBA move away from box score type metrics as companies like SportVu and Vantage have started tracking specific scouting stats. More importantly, we now have numbers for defense which is where there was a massive gap before. Many of the defensive stats like defensive RAPM, synergy stats and 82games opponent PER all disagreed with each other often and they weren't very detailed. However, we're getting away from that now. I think we can start to develop some metrics now that aren't so offensively biased and capture individual defense better. This year's Sports Sloan Conference should be really interesting, we should see an influx of studies and perhaps some new all encompassing metrics.
Hey, I know you're a Wins Produced guy and for the life of me, I don't know why but I thought I'd share one of the recent studies done on predicting team wins using various metrics for years Y-1, Y-2 and Y-3.
Doesn't look like WP/48 predicts future performance very well. To be fair, I think WP is more built to look at what has happened, rather than what will happen. However, the name of the game in the NBA is to project, not look what has happened. Anyways, thought I'd share that study with you. Still think you're better off using ASPM.
In the religion forum? I am well aware of your stance on the subject since you've spoken about your background before, but I will go check it out when I have the time.
Yeah. Both long ones really. You made your point strongly without any need to make someone else feel like a ****. It spurs conversation instead of shutting it down. You express a position that is in balance with the many unknowns in the situation. And it was fun to read. I normally gloss over when I read long pad posts. With both of yours I did not.
Hey that was a great post on multiple levels.
Now it's my turn to be drunk and check it out more manana (I work odd days). Your inputs welcomed though keep it comin'.
Awesome - good stuff my man.
Took awhile but I managed to read those articles you linked on Dennis Rodman. Pretty incredible. Honestly, I can't remember the context or the thread he was brought up in but if it's the thread about Shawn Kemp. Dennis > Shawn and it's really not close.
I am putting my old ways behind me. I hope we can have real convos in the future
