I don't mean he'll be a better pitcher, just that as he declines it won't be as noticeable as it would have been in an AL park. Weaker lineups in general (no DH), and the Nats park is better for flyball pitchers (which Scherzer is).
His FIP won't change, but I imagine ballpark and league factors would make his ERA look better than it might have in the AL during his decline phase. In the short term he's a huge upgrade. I think some of the Nats starters are a bit overrated, so he improves the team and protects them for when Fister/Zimmermann leave.
No, it's not an overpay. Because a ton of it is deferred, it's not really $200+M. It's a solid contract. Moving to the NL and that park will also help him perform well for longer than he would in the AL.
No, I think it's a fine deal. Over the first 7 years anyway.
It'll be awhile before it's a negative, though it will probably end up being a negative in the end. It's great for awhile.
Phillies sucked because Amaro made some really bad moves with that team, like extending Howard way before he had to and other related moves. The pitching wasn't the issue.
I'll be rooting for the Nationals. You guys got a good chance to take out LA if you meet up in the playoffs. Still need a bullpen though especially after losing Clippard.
Giants won't be good until 2016. World Series hangover.
Hopefully not. but The Nationals are tough, I wouldn't be surprised.
It will be a hard fought battle. Nats will take it to 5.
Sorry, I haven't been on for awhile. Congrats on the Division title. Although the Braves collapsed it wouldn't have mattered you guys were on fire in this second half and just took it.
Probably Dodgers because of their top 3 starters.
But nobody specifically scares me overall. All teams are very beatable in a short series.
Same, it should be a great race.
