Thanks for reading, and I think our optimism will be rewarded once the season starts rolling.
I'm very excited for our defense. Do you realize that we have 11 able defensive linemen if you include Gerard Warren coming back? That is going to one helluva camp battle, and our rotation/depth are going to be insane. Warren is looking like a factor once again, Wilfork will be Wilfork, Mike Wright is an excellent pass-rusher, Ron Brace is already a good run-defender and is going to take a step-up this year, and Kyle Love/Brandon Deaderick/Myron Pryor are solid young defensive linemen. As well, a player like Marcus Stroud could surprise, if anything he adds to already an intriguing camp battle. After assessing the amount of depth we have on our defensive line, it makes a lot more sense as to why we chose to not select a defensive lineman in this draft.
Our linebacking corps is going to be sick as well. Jermaine Cunningham is going to be improved as a pass-rusher, and Rob Ninkovich/Eric Moore should be as well. People forget that each of these guys were in their first year in the system(Moore had only 1/4th of a season), and our defense has a rather steep learning curve. Our championship defenses had good pass-rushers, but they weren't sack artists per se. With these guys having more knowledge of the system, and having much better instincts, I fully expect a jump in production from this unit.
Our ILBers are awesome, I think we all know that. Mayo and Spikes form a fierce tandem, and Dane Fletcher is actually a very good backup along with Gary Guyton. This unit will be the deepest it has been in years, and when you have great ILBers it allows BB to dial up more blitzes from other angles.
The secondary as well should be the deepest it has been in years. McCourty is a stud, Bodden is back, Dowling has ridiculous upside, Arrington showed he is a player last season, and Butler/Wilhite round out a deep position. Belichick has been striving for a long time to get a unit like this, and I think he finally has fulfilled what he set out for. Plus, Chung is going to immensely better now that he will be allowed more freedom and will be able to be the dominant in-the-box safety we want. Chung probably would have finished the year better last season if it weren't for his knee injury. Merriweather still infuriates us at times, but it isn't as if he is bad either. If he falls into the doghouse again, we have Bodden/Dowling/Brown who could slide inside and be at least formidable as well.
As you can tell, I'm very excited about this defense and have had a few beers Sorry for the long post, I've been trying to not get too giddy with excitement since anything could happen.
Yeah I know. It's hilarious how many generalizations are used in arguments, and I'm done as well. We were being reasonable, not saying these players were going to be great, but some people have to be right..lol
And I've been saying that about Dowling as well, he's going to be quite the steal for us. The more I delve deeper, the more I'm liking our draft.
Apparently haha. Whatever though, there's no point in me arguing with him anymore. I always own him and its like he just covers his ears and goes "la la la la I can't hear you".
lol, to be honest, I'm getting tired of these arguments though. He just says the same stuff over and over again. And you'll notice, he chooses to ignore some of my points when he can't come up with an answer to it. Oh well.
Just curious if McPhee is your last name, and if so, where you're from. There is a very slight chance we may be related. (My last name is McPhee)
