I think we need to redirect the narrative on both sides. I fully agree with you about the soundbyte generation (not your words, but I feel it fully describes what you described).
If we go at it like they did in the 90s under Clinton then I think that something could get done.
Even though I said that those views were from most conservatives, I think that I share it with many other liberals.
I have asked a couple other of the conservative posters their thoughts on my post in the Romney thread. What do you think? Does what I posted fit your vision of how the safety net is suppose to operate?
The only thing that I would change is make it very clear that the federal government has a role in space flight. I think it does, but as it stands now I think the Constitutionality is questionable. But it is one of the things that I think the federal government clearly has a role in.
This is possibly one of my favorite articles.
2012 is happening! We just agreed on something.
I thought you would appreciate this. I'm not really at all surprised that China is so high.
"OOH, let's test a theory!"
I thought that was actually quite funny.
Belief it or not, I chuckled at your comment. Almost got caught in class not paying attention.
Of course I wouldn't support derailing any thread about religion into an attack on religion. But would you be okay with a thread debating the existence of God/a god if that thread was so labeled?
I say this because a science forum would suit threads debating the merits of evolution, of YEC, of ID, of irreducible complexity, even if the latter few aren't really "science" (take the quotations as walking the tightrope here). But a debate over the existence of God isn't science really at all. It's a debate over reason and faith. And thus I would think it goes better in a Religion forum.
I'm not looking for a toe-hold in this hypothetical forum to start an all-out attack on religion/Christianity/whatever (and remember that I really never started the threads that you took offense to). I wouldn't want the Religion forum to devolve into an Atheism or Skeptics forum. I would, however, like to debate the existence of God in a proper forum and proper thread.
And I don't accept the argument that criticizing religion is inherently too negative.
Figured this would go better here rather than dragging down your thread ... Would you allow threads that question religion in the Religion forum and threads that question, say, evolution or global warming in the Science forum (if you were in charge, of course)?
I never saw any harm in us all debating the merits of evolution or the merits of faith in God. The problems arose when every thread involving evolution and/or God devolved into such debates (being careful not to levy blame anywhere). So, along those lines, I'd imagine those kinds of discussions could take place if properly outlined and placed.
