transportation is a big issue there, a lot of brazilians rely on public transport to get to work and government plans raised the ticket prices considerably the past few years
factor in the the already pervasing corruption and gap in wealth and you get restlesss people
with the dawn of easily accessible media outlets like twitter, orkut and fb they are able to coordinate the protests in scales i've never seen when i lived there
most of the time they were simple protests concentrated in main city hubs like curitiba and sao paulo but they've spread out now and with the visibility of the world cup it makes it easy for their voices to be heard
i don't think they will lose the sporting events, the protests are being done for a variety of reasons and the sporting events are more of a vehicle to display their disatisfaction
the causes of the revolts are of course much more complicated than football or the olympics
