Its up to you to dissect the stats, usage rate in concert with offensive rtg tell you exactly how a player is contributing to his teams bottom line offensively. PER tells you how those #'s (on a per minute basis) stack up to league averages without letting pace skew the math.

Generally if 2 players have identical PER's the one who is more efficient is the better player. Not always but because PER is a usage driven stat it will favor players who chuck and WinShares favor players who dont have to create but finish at an elite rate. Thats why the 2 make for a great contrast in styles. What you have to look for are players who are forced to chuck because it helps their teammates. And guys who if they shouldered a bigger load would see their efficiency take a massive hit.

There are several methods to break down stats, skill curves are important, defense is the hardest part but with defensive rating, w/s, DMULT/DQUAL, adj. +/- you can paint a better picture than with whats available in the boxscore.

Overall there will never be an all in one stat, but youll do alot better with the advanced metrics than any other.

The whole point of using per possession stats is that you eliminate pace from the equation. Basically the stats arent any different they are the same, they are only different/inflated if your still relying on outdated methods. In which case its not DAntoni ball that has boosted his players stock, its the individuals lack of perspective.
