I ate the majority of it myself, but shared it with a few friends, and I have some sauce and about 20 meatballs in the freezer for future meals.
It's not vital, but they're nice to add if you can find them at a reasonable price. Still, the meat should still have plenty flavor without them. Were you the only beneficiary of the recipe? It yields quite a bit.
I followed it pretty closely, other than swapping romano in for parm. You did mention pine nuts, though I didn't have any on hand. I am a fan of them however, so next time I'll be sure to pick some up.
No kidding? That's great! Did you make any tweaks to the recipe? I can't remember if I listed chopped pine nuts being included in the meatballs, which I've done the past two times I've made the sauce.
