Just for fun ... this is a sports forum, after all. :D

I need to find a box score ...

Democrats break Republican winning streak in Congressional baseball game

Seldom does one go to a baseball game and hear a heckler shout, "Go back to the agriculture committee!" but Wednesday night's 48th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park was no ordinary ballgame, where Democrats broke their losing streak to win 15-10.

The first inning suggested a pitchers' duel was shaping up, with Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif., and Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill., both showing strong arms. But the Dems broke it open in the second inning, scoring six runs. Though the GOP answered the call in the third, they weren't able to keep up with the hot bats from the left side of the aisle.

Prior to the game, Republican manager Rep. Joe Barton of Arlington, said his side had won eight in a row and 11 of the past 12 games, which put pressure on him to keep the winning streak alive.

"I don't want to be the first Republican manager in eight years to get a loss," Barton said, "but on the other side the Democrats are trying real hard and they've got a little bit younger team and the law of averages says one of these days they're going to break through, but hopefully not tonight."

Although Washington has become a crock pot of contention over legislative issues such as health care reform, climate change and defense spending, lawmakers put politics aside when they traded wingtips for cleats.

"Tonight is baseball, apple pie and motherhood," Barton said.

Can't you see the "curse of Arlen Specter" haunting the Republicans for years to come?

its hard to integrate when you send your only black guy to the white house....

reminds me of Jon Stewart's paint-by-numbers of the US Senate in America:The Book. Hilarious

How did the Republicans get 8 wins in a row to begin with? Aren't Republican's generally older? I would think they would get worked, or at least beaten on a regular basis.

Hope Ensign enjoyed this little diversion, because for him, it's gonna get worse before it gets better.

Yeah, but look how many black people from the US play in MLB. Not many.
Oh, and I found this hilarious:
Barrett’s days of playing in the game are numbered, as he’s running for governor in 2010.
He can keep his spot on the baseball team, he's got no chance to win.

They had a bigger "draft pool" of young House members from your more baseball affluent southern states. Us Northerners get our home seasons started much later and spend weeks on the road touring the south. :D
