Just wondering. (http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2009/05/tomorrow-rnc-could-rename-democrats-as-democrat-socialist-party.php)

Seems to me it would only be fair.

Nah -- let them wallow in their petty mess. It's better to stay above that.

Well, in all fairness, I would say all of the government is socialist, in that, I have not seen a movement to end Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security.....

I think it would be more correct, if we need to relabel the opposition party, the Republican Socialist Party.

Yeah, I like that.

That's the ticket.

How about we rename them all liars, cheats or thieves.......that has more of a ring to it

How exactly does this affect anything? I mean when we see a ballot will Democrats be required to put "Democratic Socialist Party" next to their name? Seems stupid to me either way.

Nope. It's just a measure that the Republican Party is passing so that in all future addresses to the Democratic Party they call them the Democrat Socialist Party. Just another use of the "Democrat" Party and not the Democratic Party.

This is completely a party-based move ... it's nothing official by the DNC.

I miss owl tags, I know it is off topic, but looking at sbc's sig made me think of it

I didnt think they had any right to do what i thought it was at first. And im sure Steele is "really" against it. I think it would be funny if the Dems did something similar and renamed the Republicans as "The Official George W Bush and Dick Cheney Party".

Atleast Dick Cheney is a republican. Kiss off Colin Powell. I still heart Dick Cheney.

Well democrats do basically hold a socialist mindset so I don't see why democrats get all offended. I mean I can see if they got offended by the term "communist" but seriously the Obama administration has done nothing but reaffirm the fact that the democratic party has turned into nothing but a socialist organization. I wouldn't be opposed to Republicans being referred to as fascists other than the fact that Fascist is such a vague term that it is almost impossible to define what a fascist truly is. I mean sure Fascists have always had an alleged right wing platform but the means to carry out such a platform has always ended in nothing short of a totalitarian government which has in turn always been against the Republican mindset of limited central government. Socialism is merely a workers party (like the democrats have always claimed to be) that says capitalism in and of itself is unfair to the blue collar working class thus must be strictly regulated (or even to some extent abolished) by the federal government resulting in a more "fair" economic playing field.

Can I say I couldn't care less what either do outside of voting to improve America and not their party, reputations, etc.?

I just kind of wonder if you realize that fire departments used to be private enterprise? So, are you saying that people are socialists who want the government to run the fire department? If your answer is yes, bless you, you are consistent. If your answer is no, then like me, you are not a purist. You would, like me, be for a mixed economy.

Maybe we should privatize the military. Groups like Blackwater do such a fine job at it.

WASHINGTON -- Republican Party leaders are dropping a proposal aimed at changing the name of the Democratic Party.

Fox News (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/05/20/republicans-drop-measure-labeling-democrats-socialist/)

I crack up when a bad idea goes down and people keep trying to defend it.

Ah the days of Tamney Hall. I do wonder though if we'll see a move towards privatization of such things as Fire Departments, with municipalities in dire straights. The problem is you can't really have competition for that, and you must have strict guidelines of acceptable accreditation, of fire coverage. I mean we do have private ambulances.

I think BlackWater, and Halliburtian were scape goated. They did nothing wrong in my book. They were used for a purpose, and did that purpose. I'd blame others, not them. But that's just me.

Xe (aka Blackwater) definitely did a lot of wrong in Iraq.

And, it was less about what Halliburton did, and more about the immediate connection to Cheney and no-bid contracting.

The point is that we are a mixed economy and have been since the 19th century. I have not heard anyone with any real thought proposing we should be anything other than what we are. So, I guess we are all socialists, because we all agree that there are things that the different levels of government should do that at one time were done by private enterprise.

This died, because it was stupid.

You don't try to change the actual name of the opposition, you just associate it with negative stuff, and caricatures. Like the Democrats have done with "Republican".

When a lot of people think of Republicans they think of this:
