we all know our goalies blow and blow hard..hiller has taken over in anaheim pretty much and im pretty sure the ducks dont want a 5M or so back up. htere D is already good and have some good spects but expect thed probably won a guy like williams or cohen and probably a vet winger in case selanne retires..but we could send them wolski or soemthing..thoughts>?

He is an instant upgrade over what we have, the only thing that makes me hesitate is how many good years does he have left? Will he be good by the time we have a chance at being good?

ya i agree he is kind of a ***** but i think alot of giggys good days are behind him and we already have some cap issues already. Just another option

i'd prefer lehtonen too actually
he can be a top 10 if he stays healthy

i would take lehtonen over giguere any day... also garon in pittsburgh wouldnt be a bad option either, he was decent with the oilers until roloson decided to play well. luongo would be the meal ticket though next summer when he becomes a free agent, by then sakic will have retired and smyth could be dealt to save some major cap room

Agreed. Paying a goalie a high salary next season may be a waste, but may get out foot in the door for '10.

I agree, we should not get rid of Wolski. Period.

Lehtonen would be my choice as well, as he has a better shelf life.

Speaking of Maple Leafs, or at least a potential Leaf, Jonas ``The Monster'' Gustavsson is expected to visit North America in two weeks.

A 24-year-old free agent goaltender from Sweden, Gustavsson says he has narrowed his choice of NHL clubs to four: Dallas, Colorado, San Jose and Toronto.

Gustavsson plans to visit each team before making his decision.http://www.canada.com/Little+played+Schenn+soaking+experience/1582225/story.html

is he good? it be cool to have a guy nicknamed the monster. we should just hire roy already and let him find a goaile i trust him. From his choices he its probably gonna come down to us and toronto since dallas got turco and san jose got nabakov.

I'll take any guy with the nickname "The Monster".

Better than our two jokes, I'm sure

How good is this kid? At 24 he was the best goalie by far in the Swedish Elite league. He had a 1.96 GAA—the first to achieve a GAA under 2.00 since 2006—then led his team to a championship.http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/24777-Eye-On-Europe-Gustavsson-defines-domination.html

Gustavsson could be our chance at a solid young goalie for the future. I say sign him to a pretty good contract, and make cuts/trades where needed.

I love that he was good to start, and excelled in the playoffs. That is a very good sign. And as said before, we may be one of the two teams left in the running due to other teams signing goalies.

I don't think this would be good for the avs. I would like to see the avs try to get Scott Clemmensen from NJ. Don't know his contract situation but, he had a great run when Marty was hurt. Right when Marty was back the shiped he to the minors. I think he may become real great with an oppertunity!

Just an idea

this gustavsson character might be a great tender it is just eerily simmilar to the brunnstrom thing last year. Im not saying dont go after him just be careful Fabian was susposed to be a top line winger or top 6 forward and he barely cracked the lineup on some nights

goalies arwe forwards are differnt..people knew brunnstrom was good but he was still small and had to adjust o the NA game and i think nhe did quite well and i dont believe he played with sweden at the WHC like Gus who started for them and helped win a bronze medel

Sad for "Monster".....

As for the article, I didn't like that the Leafs are supposedly the frontrunners, although the paper is based in Toronto, so that is expected.

Hopefully we can get it done. Even if we struggle this year, it would be a great time for him to go through those learning experiences while we aren't fighting for a championship.

That would be cool if we picked up Gustavsson and then the leafs got the sedin's get them out of the west.

Biron also looks like he'd heading to free agency. It's reported he's looking for a 5 year deal for 5 million a year. I think 4 million a year would be better suited for him but he is definitely a viable option should we lose out on "the monster" sweepstakes.

Minnesota has targeted four teams - the Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche, Detroit Red Wings and the Philadelphia Flyers - to try and trade backup goalie Josh Harding, who had a 2.21 goals-against average and .929 save percentage in 19 games in the 2008-09 season.

The 2002 second-round draft pick played for Rob Daum when he coached the Wild's AHL farm club in Houston, should they need a scouting report.

The Wild will try to get a second-line forward back for Harding, who turns 25 on June 18.

Well, it turns out Jonas Gustavsson was in Denver to visit the Avalanche TODAY and is just leaving town now. I never got to talk with the Monster but will have a story in tomorrow’s paper.http://blogs.denverpost.com/avs/2009/06/15/gustavsson-leaves-town/
