a few hundred years ago there were many people who didnt want to break from england. people fought and were afraid that it might cost lives... and it did.

people just expect Iraq to be "fixed" in a few years after a dictator is removed. also people tend to forget that America had a civil war 100 years AFTER our declaration of independence. Battles like Gettysburg that had over 50,000 casualties from one fight wouldn't be tolerated today in our hippie liberal media.

and now BECAUSE of the surge... Bagdad is promoting tourism, thinking of building $100 million dollar hotels, and they might not be there now...but they are on their own way

Obama is a ivy leaguer who cant comprehend personal sacrifice, his ego wont let him. He wont admit the surge is working cause it will make him look bad.. he gives credit to diplomacy and the Iraqi Gov, not our troops.

One day Iraq will be a place where the children grow up without fear of mass genocides and admit it or not.. it will be thanks to G.W. Bush and the surge

don't start the hate propaganda that obama doesn't support or give credit to the troops, that's not what his trip over there has shown so far.

He's been in the right from the beginning, that's what important, ie someone with good judgement who won't put this country in the wrong position based on faulty intelligence.

I thought we should already be thanking GW Bush, especially everyday since the "Mission Accomplished" banner.:o

You're partially right about the Left not being able to give credit to the surge because they look bad about it (General Betray-us, anyone). But the rest is a bit unfair.

Putting everyone on the left in the same boat as the whackjobs at MoveOn.org is akin to putting everyone on the right in the same boat as the Swiftboaters.

a stable Iraq.....right.....

taking power away from the sunni's and giving it over the shiites IMO isn't exactly gonna create harmony....

Fine. Then why won't prominent Dems give credit to the surge for helping the war?

Also, the difference between moveon.org and the swiftboaters is the swiftboaters weren't entirely wrong.

Interesting article on how the surge has made Obama's cut and run strategy possible.

I always knew deep down that Iraq would go green before Iran.

While there have been reductions in violence....come on.

I'm pretty sure he has acknowledged the positive gains of the surge.

This political climate makes it very tough to tip your cap to the other side though, so that may be something to consider.

Obama shouldn't really go with the "The surge has had positive effects, but I'd still be against it" type stuff though.

If Iraq is at some point deemed a success. I will be very happy. And if something like that were to happen, I would think Petraeus may one day have a good shot at the presidency.

Umm I seen the title "Obama cut and run" and clicked on this for a laugh. Instead of toilet humor I got a laugh at

Iraq is building hotels? Whip-de-doo, sweet, the war is a total success!!!

And isn't that what he's said numerous times? That's why he proposed a staged withdrawal -- one very similar to the one that McCain and Bush are now both talking about in their withdrawal "horizons"

And one on the other end of the spectrum could argue that moveon wasn't entirely false either. We were definitely being fed propaganda by the people in charge (politicians and generals) that the war would last 'days, weeks, or months, but definitely not years.'

You can keep playing the game over and over again, but at some point you just have to realize that there are crazies on both sides whose only goal in life is to twist the truth and make the other side look bad.

Kind of like how some of the McCain surrogates are attacking Obama for signing the logbook at Yad Vashem.

Unfortunately the media pays lots of attention to those types because people love to watch trash on tv.

It's Newsmax. They've made their own news before. I wouldn't be surprised if they're making this up as well. I'm sure none of you remember this, but they're the ones that made up the story about Bono fundraising for Rick Santorum and Jesse Helms which might seem a little obscure, but it was actually something that Libby Dole tried to use this week as justification to get the new AIDS bill named after Jesse Helms.

If Iraq wants to be a free country, it's time they step up to the plate and take responsibility for themselves. We're(the military) tired of going there, enough is enough.

When do we realize that this is their country, not ours? We have good lives, we can't we just live it and not worry about other people?
